This app offers access to both the "Old Testament" and "New Testament" of the Bible. It provides a valuable resource for those interested in the Malayalam translations of the Bible, which have had a significant impact on the development of the modern language.

The initiative to translate the Bible into Malayalam began in the early 19th century, thanks to the efforts of Kayamkulam Philipose Ramban, with support from Mor Dionatius the Great and Rev. Claudius Buchanan. Rev. Buchanan, a missionary who visited Kerala during this period, encouraged church leaders to undertake this translation and provided guidance to local scholars. At the time, Syriac was the liturgical language of Christians in Kerala.

Kayamkulam Philippose Ramban, a Malankara Syrian Christian monk, initially translated a few books of the Holy Bible from Syriac to Malayalam with assistance from Timapah Pillay. They used Johann Philipp Fabricius' Tamil version translation as a reference to create a Malayalam copy. The Bible Society of India funded the printing of 500 copies in Bombay in 1811. Timapah later completed the New Testament in 1813, but it was discovered that it contained vocabulary specific to Syriac Christians rather than being accessible to the broader Malayalam population. This version is now recognized as the Ramban Bible.

Benjamin Bailey continued the translation effort after Ramban's Bible and eventually completed the full translation. Bailey's translation of the New Testament was published in 1829, followed by his translation of the Old Testament in 1841.

Hermann Gundert later revised Bailey's version and also produced the first Malayalam-English dictionary in 1872. Other sources mention that Phillipose Rampan (c. 1780-1850) also translated parts of the Bible into Malayalam.
